Ah, Tokyo. A city of neon lights, vending machines that sell everything from hot corn soup to bug snacks, and quiet subway rides where nobody talks to strangers. But there’s one place where people do talk—and laugh—a lot. That place is Tokyo Comedy Bar, where those strangers go on stage and make you laugh!
Yes, there is stand-up comedy in Tokyo. In English. Every night of the week. And according to the amazing review - it’s very funny. Tokyo Comedy Bar is a special spot where locals, tourists, and even couples on first dates come together to enjoy drinks and jokes. It’s also a unique way to learn about Japanese life and culture, especially through the eyes of English-speaking Japanese comedians and Tokyo-based performers.
The Vibe

Imagine a cozy Brooklyn bar mixed with a London late-night comedy club—then raised by funny people from around the world who now live in Tokyo. That’s the feeling at Tokyo Comedy Bar. The room is intimate enough to hear every laugh and big enough to host all kinds of comedy: from weekend headliners to open mic nights where anything can happen.
The energy is exciting but welcoming. You don’t need to “get” every joke to enjoy the experience—just bring an open mind and maybe an extra drink.
The Shows

What kind of comedy is on offer? All kinds. Tokyo Comedy Bar has shows almost every night. The main show is the Stand-Up Comedy Showcase, every day (excl. Sunday) at 7:30 PM. There are also weekend shows at Tokyo Comedy Bar Shinjuku Stage (just by Golden Gai) at 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Comedians are local, including Japanese performers who joke in English about life in Japan. Their comedy often shares real experiences and gives a fun way to understand modern Japanese culture.
Check the calendar—there’s always something different!
The Crowd

Who comes to Tokyo Comedy Bar? A little bit of everyone. Tourists, Tokyo locals, students, and office workers who planned for one drink but stayed for the whole night. It’s one of the few places in the city where you can really connect with strangers through laughter.
The Bar (Yes, There’s a Bar)

Let’s not forget the drinks. Tokyo Comedy Bar has a great selection of craft beer—local and international. There are also cocktails, highballs, and seasonal drinks that change throughout the year.
Don’t drink alcohol? No problem. They have non-alcoholic drinks too, and you won’t feel left out.
The Mission

Tokyo Comedy Bar is more than just a bar or a comedy club. It’s a community of people who believe laughter connects us, no matter where we’re from.
It’s run by comedians, and the goal is to make Tokyo a real destination for comedy. If you want to learn about life in Japan—not just the famous sights, but how people really live and think—this is a fun place to do it.
So, Should You Go?
You could wait in line for fancy sushi. Or get lost in Shibuya Crossing. Or—you could come to Tokyo Comedy Bar, grab a drink, and laugh with people from around the world. You might even see a rising star before they’re famous.
And while you're laughing, you'll also be learning—about Japan, its people, and the unique humor that ties us all together.
