Starting in mid-October, 7-Eleven Japan has launched a series of Super Mario items, including the popular Ichiban Kuji lottery, MOOK (a combination of "magazine" and "book") items, and special promotions where you get bonus items by purchasing select snacks or drinks from the store. The LIVE JAPAN team immediately headed to the nearest 7-Eleven to buy some Ichiban Kuji and MOOK items for testing! What did we get, and how did we feel about the products? Let's find out!

"This is the first time I've played a lottery since becoming an adult. I feel both nervous and excited, like a kid!" said Johanna from the editorial department.
Let's start the lottery! What prizes did you win?
In Japan, you can find the Ichiban Kuji (lottery) at convenience stores and bookstores. It includes prizes ranging from A to I (the combinations of items vary by series). By purchasing a lottery ticket, you are guaranteed to win one of the prizes. The person who buys the last lottery ticket in stock will receive a special prize!
This time, the Super Mario Ichiban Kuji features prizes from A to G, including the top prize, A, which is a Question Mark Box Candy Dispenser, and down to the smallest prize, G, which is a Character Select Plate. So, will Johanna be lucky enough to draw the prize she wants?
After actually participating in the Ichiban Kuji, Johanna received the E prize, a Sandwich Maker, and the F prize, a small towel.
Johanna said, "Originally I wanted the C prize, a cute frying pan with a Toad motif. However, I first drew the F prize. But I'm not one to give up easily, so I tried again! On my second draw, I got the E prize. Even though I didn't get the frying pan I wanted most, after using it, the F prize towel was nicer than I expected!"
Johanna continues, "Both the F prize and the E prize have various characters and colors to choose from, which is really nice. Even though I didn't get the prize I wanted most, I could still pick my favorite style from the later prizes, which was pretty great!"
The cost of participating in the Ichiban Kuji is about 700 yen per draw, and the event runs from mid-October. Mario fans definitely shouldn't miss out!
Surprisingly, her favorite was the F prize small towel?!
Johanna said, "In the end, I was the most happy about the F prize towel (laughs). In Japan, public restrooms don't always provide paper towels, so I'm used to carrying a handkerchief with me to dry my hands! This event has a lot of items that are perfect for home use, and this towel can be used as a cute room decoration. But I'm totally taking it out with me to show it off to my friends!
There are eight different styles for the F prize towel, featuring not just the main characters like Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, and Luigi, but also iconic designs like the Question Mark Box and Super Mushroom. I chose the Super Star, no one will miss me when I walk around with this outside!"
Johanna also enthusiastically added, "Additionally in the campaign, there's a product called 'Boo Cooling Ramune Candy', and it's really delicious! This might actually be the tastiest ramune candy I've had."
Super Mario Series Product MOOK Special Edition
One of our LIVE JAPAN Japanese editors Kaori immediately got her hands on the MOOK Special Edition! The items that most caught Kaori's attention were the "Mario's Hat Plush Storage Bag" and the "Super Star & Coin Decorative Lights."
Kaori shared, "The products this time are not just visually appealing; many of them are suitable for home use. Especially the decorative lights are the perfect choice for home decor! I also participated in the Ichiban Kuji and won a Sandwich Maker, so I immediately threw a family party. Just placing these decorative lights around the plates added a party vibe. I even think this lighting is perfect for a Christmas table setting, and I’m really looking forward to it!"
Kaori continued, "I also use these lights as reading lights for the kids before bed. The brightness is just right to illuminate the book, and by pressing the switch twice, it enters a gentle 'sleep mode,' where the light slowly flickers, making it perfect for bedtime!"
The Super Mario Series That Drives Japanese Fans Wild!
Kaori mentioned that her entire family are fans of Super Mario: "I've loved Mario games since I was a child, and now my kids have become fans too. This lamp is the perfect item for the whole family to enjoy together. The lamp requires three AAA batteries, so I recommend getting batteries right away, so you can use it right away when you get home!"
More Options Available! Super Mario Snacks and Toys
In addition, there are many Super Mario-themed snacks and toys available. For example, the popular snack Hi-Chew has launched a special Mario packaging edition, and well-known products like Morinaga Chocolate Balls and UHA Taste Candy have co-branded packaging. Fans definitely shouldn’t miss out when they see them!
*Note: All prices include tax.
Some 7-Eleven stores may not participate in the event, and product availability varies by store. The event ends when products sell out or at different deadlines depending on the items.
