Description
Ryogoku was the largest, most bustling town during the Edo period, and it is also the birthplace of Edomae-style sushi. The residents in Edo called Edokko (literally translated as “child of Edo”)had such a busy life, sushi that could be consumed quickly grew in popularity. Here in “Ryogoku Edo NOREN”,12Japanese restaurants have gathered at Ryogoku Station under the concept of “stylish Japanese food enjoyment”. As they are housed in the historic former- Ryogoku Station building, the interior and exterior of the building enhance the nostalgic atmosphere. Upon entering you are struck by the sight of a sumo ring, a symbol of “Sumo Town” Ryogoku, and the atmosphere that emanates from it. The high ceilinged surrounding area is designed like Machiya , an architectual style for shops and residences in Edo period. Come taste what makes Japanese food so delicious while learning about Edo traditions and culture. At the Ryogoku Tourist Information Center of the Sumida Tourist Association you will find a wealth of sightseeing maps and other information, as well as traditional crafts and souvenirs for sale. During spring and autumn tourist seasons as well as during the Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament, you can take ”guided walking tours” right from the Information Center. Local tour guides will show you around Ryogoku.
