Description
The Shirahige Bridge was constructed in 1931 following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. It is an important bridge that connects Arakawa, Sumida and Taito. The original Shirahige Bridge was a wooden structure built by locals in 1914; before that, a ferry was used here to cross the Sumida River. The present bridge, 167.6 meters long and 24.1 meters wide, is a truss bridge with a center arch sloping down on both sides. It is stylishly designed, with chic street lights along the deck, and you can see Tokyo Skytree® from the south sidewalk. In fact, this is the perfect spot to enjoy unobstructed views of the illuminated Tokyo Skytree®, as well as colorful reflections in the river at night.
