Description
It opened in 1969 as a latest National Garden. It is situated on the north side of the Imperial Palace, and this is where once stood the northern walled enclosure of Edo Castle, hence the name. The park has a grassed area, a pond, a variety of deciduous trees and an evergreen forest dating from prewar times. Many people visit in spring, when cherry trees bloom at the surrounding landmarks and in autumn when the leaves turn red beautifully. Also of interest are the historical ruins of the Edo Castle named Tayasu-mon Gate and a cultural facility such as the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. The Forest Kitanomaru serves light meals such as original hamburgers made with fresh ingredients of Tokyo produce. It is a 5-minute walk from Kudanshita Station on Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line, Tozai Line and Toei Shinjuku Line.
