Tokyo Toy Museum

東京おもちゃ美術館

Description

The Toy Museum, opened in 1984 in Nakano, Tokyo with the motto ”Make friends with the toys of the world,” relocated to a former Shinjuku schoolhouse in 2008 as the Tokyo Toy Museum. It owns tens of thousands of toys, and the toys are for visitors not only to see but also to touch, feel the warmth of, and play with. There is the Toy Forest, where people can play with wooden toys made by craftsmen using traditional Japanese artistry. Also, there is the Mokuiku Hiroba, a room where babies aged 0 to 2 years can experience the feeling of wood or the shapes of wooden toys. Furthermore, there is a workshop in which you can learn how to make toys. The museum is designed for different generations to communicate naturally with toys. The volunteer staff members called toy curators explain about how to play with the toys and help you enjoy the toys more. It only takes about seven minutes walking slowly with children from the Marunouchi Line Yotsuya-sanchome Station.
