The Gotoh Museum

A museum housing and displaying pieces of classical Japanese and oriental art (date back before the Meiji Restoration of 1868) collected by Keita Goto, former chairman of Tokyu Corporation. The museum owns about 5000 pieces including old sutra copies as Goto himself boasted about them as the best collection in Japan, five items designated as national treasures and fifty items as important cultural properties. Six to seven exhibitions are held a year and the popular national treasures, The Tale of Genji Scroll is displayed in every spring and Murasaki Shikibu Diary Emaki in every autumn. You should not miss also the building constructed in the shinden-zukuri style which was used for the houses of aristocrats in the Heian period as well as the Japanese garden in its vast site, approximately 5 acres. The museum organizes lecture sessions and gallery talks for each exhibition for those who want to learn more about the exhibition and art. A five-minute walk from Kaminoge Station on the Tokyu Oimachi Line.
