Description
The museum building was Taro Okamoto's art studio and residence for the last 50 years of the artist's life. He created many artworks such as the ”Tower of the Sun,” first exhibited at the 1970 Osaka Expo, as well as gigantic monuments and mural paintings. His passion and energy are still present in the museum. The house Taro and his family lived in for years was destroyed during the war. After the war, his friend and architect, Junzo Sakakura, designed and built the studio on the same site. The unique exterior appearance attracted the public's attention at the time as an excellent architectural design. It is an eight-minute walk from the Omotesando Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Chiyoda Line, and Hanzomon Line. Alternatively, it is a two-minute walk from the Minami-Aoyama-Roku-Chome bus stop, taking a Toei bus for Shinbashi-ekimae or Shibuya-ekimae.
