At this unique izakaya, "lively cheerleaders will cheer you on!" as the store promises its customers proudly - the word cheerleader alone might invoke a certain nostalgic feeling, making this izakaya's concept a rather interesting one. Gather all of your courage, head down to the shop, and let's see what the cheerleading girls have in store!
Relax in a Welcoming Atmosphere
The much-talked about izakaya with its famous cheerleaders is called "Cheers Tokyo Ginza Branch". It is conveniently located just five minutes away from Ginza Station, Yurakucho Station, and Hibiya Station. The bar can be found down a flight of stairs at the basement.
Finally Meeting the Cheerleaders!
While the izakaya has a friendly and lively atmosphere, going in alone may feel a little unnerving. However, girls in uniforms will come out to greet you cheerfully the moment you step into the shop. This alone will make you feel at ease and, in fact, Cheers Ginza is a great place for individuals to visit.
There are both tables and counter seats available. If you arrive early, you might be the only customer as the izakaya really starts to get crowded in the later hours of the evening from around 9:00 p.m. Being alone does have its merits, however - you get the full attention of all the cheerleaders!
Be Cheered on right from Your First Drink!
As soon as you are seated, the cheerleaders come to your table to explain the pricing system of the izakaya. Basically, they charge per 30 minutes with an all-you-can-drink system. Basic types of alcoholic drinks are on the quite impressive menu, such as draft beer, highball, wine, and gin and tonic.
Cheering time begins when your drinks arrive. You barely have time to think "What's happening?" as they start their lively cheering. Don't be shy, just join them and clap your hands!
You do a high-five with the girls as they cheer! And then, with a "Cheers!" you toast them! Naturally, some people might feel a little shy at the beginning, but the happy energy of the cheerleaders is infectious and soon you'll find yourself cheering along.
Their menu includes the high recommended "mini karaage-don" (a mini bowl of rice topped with fried chicken), oven-baked oiled sardines, and potato chips. Of course, the drinks are poured by the cheerleaders themselves.
Lively Cheering, Dancing, and Singing!
One of the best things about Cheers: the karaoke machine. The cheerleaders will sing and dance as soon as you've picked a song! They liven up the performance with microphones, tambourines, and even some dancing. They cheer and do everything they can to make this karaoke experience a fun one! It's quite impressive how the cheerleaders continue to sing, dance, and cheer throughout multiple songs until they're out of breath.
Apart from karaoke, there's a fixed performance by the cheerleaders every 30 minutes. Lively, energetic music fills the izakaya as the young women perform their amazing cheer dance. This event is included in the price so lean back and enjoy the show!
About the Special "Cheers Drink!"
There are two special items on the menu called the "Support Drink" and the "Cheers Drink". If you choose the Cheers Drink you'll be asked to think of a team name for the cheerleaders and they'll come up with an original and creative cheer based on your team name. You can choose to use your own name too! They cheer and dance along to light music as your drink arrives, and you make a toast with "Cheers!". (Cheerleaders who are under the legal drinking age will toast you with soft drinks.)
After enjoying this unique drink, why not take home a memento? You'll be offered to have your picture taken with the cheerleaders with an instant camera - a nice souvenir to take home. You can also book the entire Cheers Tokyo for a private party with a minimum of eight people, including special performances for such occasions.
They Will Cheer You on Until the Very End!
The cheerleaders all have a name tag to encourage customers to converse with them. Ayane, the cheerful young woman in the picture above, is a university student! She likes dancing and thus dances along to the izakaya's music with the other staff when they are free. The cheerleading staff really seems to genuinely get along very well and this fact alone attributes to much of the wonderfully friendly and welcoming atmosphere of Cheers Tokyo.
It's time for another cheering session as you leave! Looking back, Cheers Tokyo really kept their initial promise of fun, lively cheering, as well as having customers eat and drink to their heart's content. Apart from enjoying the energetic experience of being "cheered on", the staff go all out to genuinely enjoy themselves while serving and chatting to their guests and this friendliness alone is sure to give you some positive energy. What are you waiting for? Let's pay Cheers Tokyo's amazing cheerleaders a visit!
