Description
Take a Koedo loop bus from the Hon-kawagoe Station or the Kawagoe Station and get off at the Hakubutsu-kan Bijutsu-kan-mae stop. The museum is there when you get off the bus. The Kawagoe City Art Museum collection, which includes a variety of artworks such as Japanese paintings, Western paintings, and woodblock prints, consists mainly of the works of artists from Kawagoe or those connected to Kawagoe. As of March 2012, the total number of works the museum owns reached 1,998 including materials, and its collection includes Japanese paintings of Gaho Hashimoto, who once took an active role as a feudal retainer, and his disciples and Western paintings of Kyuichiro Aihara, who lived in Kawagoe as his activity base throughout his life and became an honorary citizen. There is a Touch Art section where you can appreciate artworks with your senses other than vision and a workshop where you can concentrate on the artistic activities such as drawing or sketching in the museum. The museum has a permanent exhibition as well. The details of special events are posted on the museum's webpage.
