Description
Hirara Port is one of the main ports on Okinawa's Miyakojima Island and serves as a base for visiting the island’s beaches, resort areas, and nearby city districts. It has also become an increasingly important port of call for international cruise ships.
When cruise ships arrive, the adjoining Hirara Marine Terminal is used temporarily for immigration checks. There is no large passenger terminal, so several thousand visitors may disembark at the same time, often causing traffic congestion and limited availability of taxis and sightseeing buses.
Miyakojima Island has no rail service, so transportation relies on taxis, buses, or rental cars. Until February 28, 2026, a trial city loop bus circulates near Hirara Port and Miyako Airport. A one-day unlimited ride ticket is available for 1,500 yen.
Since bus services are limited on the island, travelers should plan their transportation carefully.
