Description
Aso Station is the gateway to the Aso region, an area known for one of the world's largest calderas. Rental car services and sightseeing buses are available near the station, making it a convenient starting point for exploring the region.
The Aso Information Center inside the station provides sightseeing advice for the area, plus accommodation support, dining recommendations, and bicycle rentals.
Buses on the Aso Tozan Line travel from the station to the crater area of Mount Nakadake, where visitors can see the active volcano up close. They also connect to Kusasenrigahama, a beautiful grassland where horseback riding is available. Aso Shrine, which has a history of more than 2,000 years, is reached by taking the JR train to Miyaji Station.
The ASO Caldera Line day-trip sightseeing bus, which operates mainly on weekends on holidays, is another efficient way to explore the wide area. Because Mount Aso Nakadake is an active volcano, access to the crater can be restricted depending on gas levels and alert conditions, so checking the latest information before visiting is important.
