Description

A city of literature. A city of movies. A city of slopes leading to temples.
Onomichi's history as a flourishing commercial capital has made it a city of fragrant culture.
During the Edo period, Onomichi was a city where the Saigoku Kaido and Ginzan Kaido roads intersected and where Kitamae ships called at, and it prospered as a key point in Japan where people, goods, information, and culture came and went.
Wealthy merchants who made their fortunes through shipping and shipbuilding donated to temples and shrines to foster arts and culture, and social places where they entertained guests with tea ceremonies were called "tea gardens."
Going back in time, the Murakami Kaizoku, who protected the sea routes of the Seto Inland Sea, were also proud cultural figures.
In this town where the memories of the land are piled up, Nishiyama Annex, which played the role of a tea garden, has been revived as "Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama," an inn that conveys Onomichi culture to the present.
We aim to be a place of comfort and exchange for a new era while paying respect to tradition.
