Sail Training Ship NIPPON MARU

The Nippon-maru Commemorative Park is located at the waterfront, the gateway to Minato Mirai 21 district. In the park, one can learn about the port of Yoohama at the Yokohama Port Museum . Nippon maru, which is the sits in the No.1 dock of the important cultural property was built in 1930 as a training ship, and its atmosphere has been kept unchanged as much as possible. During its 54-year service until 1984, Nippon maru sailed the distance that equal to 45.4 rounds around the earth (1,830,000 km) and helped many trainees to grow up. You can walk on the deck or interior of the ship while appreciating the pictures and articles for the ship from that time. The Yokohama Port Museum has two themed zones; one is wher one can learn the history of the port, and the other is where the different roles and functions of the port can be learned. Precious exhibitions which include various models of the ship and the illustration of Perry’s arrival can be seen. In the building, is the maritime library and museum shop that you can purchase the park’s original goods. You can also visit the restaurant where you can enjoy authentic pizzas and grilled dishes. It is a five-minute walk from the Sakuragicho Station on the JR (Japan Railways) Negishi Line.
