Description
The Japan Equestrian Archery Association is a public interest incorporated association under the jurisdiction of the Cabinet Office, whose purpose is to develop traditional Japanese culture by preserving and disseminating Japanese horse archery originating in the Kamakura period and practicing and teaching traditional horse riding, as well as to contribute to international friendship through equestrian culture.
The Japan Equestrian Archery Association dedicates yabusame and kasagake (traditional horseback archeries) as ritual ceremonies at Samukawa Jinja Shrine (Kanagawa), Mishima Taisha Shrine (Shizuoka), Meiji Jingu Shrine (Tokyo), Kamigamo Jinja Shrine (Kyoto), and other shrines. Commissioned by the Agency for Cultural Affairs under the 2024 Japan Cultural Expo 2.0, the association holds yabusame events in various parts of Japan.
* Japan Cultural Expo 2.0 aims to attract many foreign visitors to Japan, leveraging the opportunity of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo. The Japan Equestrian Archery Association has been selected for the Japan Cultural Expo for five consecutive years since 2020, and presents traditional Japanese culture centered on yabusame and kasagake.
