Katakuri no Yado is a small inn with only seven rooms that was renovated from a 108-year-old elementary school in Akiyamago, a remote area that straddles Niigata and Nagano prefectures and is one of the world's most snow-heavy regions. In the former gymnasium, a sugoroku game, an artwork from the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, is set up. The giant sugoroku game takes up the entire gymnasium and is enjoyable for both adults and children. The inn serves original Japanese cuisine that uses plenty of wild plants and vegetables. We strive to create dishes that allow you to enjoy the taste of the ingredients, with a balance of taste, color, and nutrition in mind. We serve our guests with hospitality, wholeheartedly, so that they can enjoy their precious meals while decorating their tables with seasonal flowers picked from the fields and mountains surrounding the inn. An elementary school that has been watching over many children in the remote Akiyamago area. We hope you will enjoy your stay while reliving the memories of that school.
