Description
Yamagata Station is the central hub of Yamagata Prefecture and the terminal for the Yamagata Tsubasa Shinkansen connecting directly with Tokyo. The station building includes a shopping mall and restaurants, making it easy to enjoy local food and buy souvenirs right after arrival.
The JNTO-certified tourist information center inside the waiting area provides maps, transportation details, and sightseeing brochures in several languages, including English.
From Yamagata Station, Kajo Park (the former Yamagata Castle site) is a 10-minute walk. Yamadera (Risshakuji Temple), a popular spot among international visitors, is about 20 minutes away by JR Senzan Line.
Zao Onsen, famous for its winter “snow monsters” (juhyo), is about 40 minutes away by bus. Be sure to check the return bus schedule in advance for safe planning.
