Description
Being a sacred place for Shugendo, this mountain and Mt. Gassan and Mt. Yudono are collectively called Dewa sanzan (the three mountains of Dewa). The place was allegedly founded by Prince Hachiko during the Asuka Period (592-710). The stone stairs leading to Hagurosan Sanjin Gosaiden at the mountaintop are lined with 350-to-600-year-old cedar trees, which have a Michelin Guide three-star rating.
