Description
Hot spring water flows from the side of Shiretoko's Mt. Io, an active volcano, transforming a river into a hot spring. In the past, people enjoyed bathing in the waterfall pools to this river, but due to the risk of falling rocks, only the lower waterfalls are accessible now. To climb though the streams here, one requires shoes with grip and a willingness to get wet. The water temperature is around a tepid 30 degrees Celsius, and makes for a great foot bath.
A 50-minute trip from Shiretoko-Shari Station on the Shari Bus for Utoro Hot Spring, then a 50-minute trip from Utoro Hot Spring Bus Terminal by taxi (shuttle bus available in the summer, requires inquiry)
