Shiretoko Goko Lakes

知床五湖

Description

Shiretoko Goko Lakes are five mystical lakes tucked deep within primeval forest, their still surfaces mirroring the Shiretoko mountain range. As one of the most iconic sights within the Shiretoko UNESCO World Heritage Site, the lakes can be enjoyed two ways: casually via the free Elevated Wooden Path, or more intimately via the Ground Pathways. The untouched forest is home to Ezo deer, wild birds, and even Hokkaido's iconic brown bears, and the scenery changes dramatically with the seasons — drawing visitors back again and again. Fresh green foliage in spring and vivid autumn colors are especially spectacular.
