Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, Hokkaido’s biggest snow park, offers a huge variety of winter activities! Stating that it garners Japan’s highest level of satisfaction isn’t an exaggeration.
But if you aren’t much of a skier or snowboarder but still want to enjoy the area’s legendary powder, worry not: here are some of the top Tomamu activities you can enjoy in the area!
1. Snowmobiling Around the Vast Snow-filled Fields!
Speed along the vast powdery fields – enjoy the exhilarating feeling while riding a snowmobile led by a guide! There is a short instruction class before riding the snowmobile, so beginners don’t have to worry. The snowmobiles can be enjoyed by children too as long a guardian accompanies them. As you get used to riding, you can increase the speed and enjoy the great fields of white!
2. Snow Rafting
Cruise through the snowfields on a sturdy raft pulled by a guide on a snowmobile! For Tomamu activities, snow rafting is super exciting, especially as the driver veers right and left, speeding ahead down and over hills. It’s almost like being on wavy water! The sensation of speed is much more than it actually is, and you’re sure to have a great time – just like riding a roller coaster! Rafts are very stable so families with children can enjoy the experience together.
3. Snow Buggy
Go into the snowy back country on a snow buggy! The guide will casually drive you through the snow so you can enjoy the view. You might also be able to check out animal tracks and more. On a course that goes up and down a lot, you will feel the snow blowing and enjoy being in the wintery nature for sure. Buggies fit four, making them perfect for families and small groups.
4. Snowshoeing
Wearing snowshoes and trekking about the soft snow—it’s such a fun way to casually take in the great outdoors while getting in some exercise! This is a fun activity to enjoy in Tomamu in winter. There is a program with a guide for nature watching, maybe you might be able to encounter some wild animals too. It is bound to be a fun adventure for adults and children.
5. Baumkuchen Baking
So here’s a fun way to enjoy winter! In a “kota” – a secreted tent – you can experience baking Baumkuchen! It’s just like roasting marshmallows. After putting a thin layer of dough around a bamboo stick, you slowly rotate it over charcoal. Rotate the stick for a while and you’ll see the rings begin to form. Eating freshly baked Baumkuchen that you made, surrounded by snow, is a fun experience you will not forget!
6. Snow Girls Day Plan
For ladies who want to enjoy the snowglobe fantasy of Hokkaido but who might not be super interested in skiing or snowboarding, this is the perfect special lodging plan! With this luxurious arrangement, you get to stay at the suite in Risonare Tomamu and receive a spa treatment. And while you’re relaxing mind and body, you get a spectacular view of the snow.
When you are hungry, there is also the Snow Dinner, a fantastic meal produced with the vision of beautiful snow scenery. This is the perfect way to indulge and enjoy the snow without being out in the cold.
