Chichibu Shrine: Enjoy layers of history

Chichibu Shrine, believed to have been built over 2,100 years ago, is a Soja shrine that enshrines several gods in the Chichibu area. The Chichibu Night Festival, held annually on December 3rd, is considered one of Japan's top three festivals, with its luxurious yatai floats and kasaboko (large parasol-like objects adorned with spears and artificial flowers) being particularly famous.

The existing Shinto shrine is adorned with a wonderful sculpture featuring brilliant coloring, which was created by a sculptor known for their work on the Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Don't miss the opportunity to see the Tsunagi-no-ryu (Bridging Dragon) and Kodakara-kosodate-no-tora (Child Treasure Child-rearing Tiger) at the shrine.

Along with Waraji katsudon, another specialty of Chichibu is Buta misodon (pork in miso sauce served on top of a rice bowl).

At the original Buta misodon specialty store, Nosaka, pork marinated in homemade miso sauce is grilled over high-grade binchotan charcoal until it becomes fragrant. The large charcoal-grilled pork that protrudes from the bowl is impressive. You will be surprised by its juicy and delicious taste!

On Saturdays and holidays, the store only sells bento boxes. In addition, on weekdays, they may sell only bento boxes when there is a shortage of staff.
