According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, cherry blossoms in 2020 are expected to bloom earlier than normal! The sakura are expected to bloom around March 16.
If you will be visiting around that time, you'll be sure to enjoy a taste of spring! From sweets to all-you-can-eat spreads, here's a selection of three fun limited-time events for the 2020 cherry blossom season!
1. MIDTOWN BLOSSOM 2020 (Roppongi): Wine in one hand, blossoms in the other at this outdoor lounge!
MIDTOWN BLOSSOM 2020 will be held at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi from March 20 (Fri) to April 19 (Sun) to celebrate the arrival of spring. This event, now in its 13th year, features two outdoor lounges, "CHANDON Blossom Lounge," along the 200m-long Sakura Street. You can enjoy premium Chandon sparkling wine and specialty food and sweets by The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo.
The outdoor CHANDON Blossom Lounge features an immersive lounge where you can enjoy the spring scenery regardless of the weather in addition to cozy private viewing spaces, complete with privacy screens. Sit back and relax with a Party Set, which includes a bottle of Chandon bubbly for 10,000 yen. Or if enjoying sakura with just the sparkling is more your style, get a glass of Chandon Rose for 750 yen (or bottle for 4,900 yen; each tax included).
From The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, you will find a patissier-prepped pairing of sweets and Chandon Rose. One bottle of Chandon Rose is provided for all seven finger foods, which include homemade smoked salmon confit, shrimp spring roll with citron, pistachio tart and a cherry macaroon.
If you're looking to savor some sweets, be sure to sample some of the patissier-selected ones that marry perfectly with Chandon Rose, including Sakura Mont Blanc with a whole strawberry. You can choose from among the three sets available, each of which includes a glass of bubbly.
You can make reservations for both outdoor lounge and private rooms. The reservation period is from Tuesday, February 25 to Saturday, April 18, 18:00. Times are limited to 90 minutes, four times a day, at 10,000 yen per person (with party set).
* Note that the private rooms cannot be used in rainy weather. If the reservation time is rainy, you will be guided to the lounge instead.

2. Sakura Chill Bar (Shibuya): Chill out in 1.2 million petals!
Fiore Pizza Dining & Bar located in Shibuya Center Gai will again be opening the Sakura Chill Bar by Saga this year! Here you can enjoy a variety of Saga Prefecture sake and delicious "Ichigo-san" brand strawberries while enjoying cherry blossoms. It will be open for 5 days from March 13 (Fri) to 17 (Tue).
The centerpiece of the Sakura Chill Bar is definitely the "Sakura Bath," where you can bury yourself in 1.2 million sakura petals and snap selfies while sipping on delicious Saga sake. Pizza and parfaits made using edible flowers will also be on sale. Enjoy chilling out while the cherry blossom petals sprinkle about!
At SAKURA CHILL BAR by Saga you'll find two separate areas decked out with gorgeous pink petals - the blossom bath and one for blossom viewing. As it's an extremely popular event, you may encounter 90-minute long lines so be sure to get your spot early!
2020 marks the third year of the festival, and there will be an “Eating Hanami Set” (1,800 yen, tax included), where if you're feeling peckish you can get the new Sakura Chill Pizza - or if you're extra hungry, fill up with the “Sakura Full Course” (3,000 yen, tax included) which includes a Sakura Shime parfait.
Since you can enjoy gazing at the blossoms while indoors, a great point is that people with hay fever can easily participate without worrying about the weather. Be sure to drop by and enjoy a fun sakura bath this year!

Cafe & Bar Tower View Terrace, an outdoor restaurant, offers an incredible view of Tokyo Tower standing right in front of you. It offers two Western-style lunches that make use of spring-like ingredients and look positively gorgeous. From Porto, the hotel's buffet-style restaurant, you can get a magnificent view of Tokyo Tower with the cherry blossoms from large windows that'll make you the envy of Instagram. Porto offers a sakura-motif seasonal menu.
In addition, at the "beer restaurant" Garden Island, you can unleash your inner carnivore on the barbecue, Wagyu beef sirloin, abalone, and prawn while watching the cherry blossoms at night for 10,000 per person (tax included).
The Washoku Shimizu Japanese restaurant offers multi-course meals for lunch and dinner using plenty of spring ingredients. Chinese Cuisine Manro Nien will also offer a limited-time menu.
The Shibakoen area is famous for its cherry blossoms. This year, enjoy them in a new way with fine cuisine and some bubbly. Make a memory that'll last forever!
