"Minami" adalah pusat untuk tempat-tempat yang menjadi simbol Osaka seperti Namba, Dotonburi dan Sennichimae. Pada zaman Edo, panggung-panggung dibuka di sekitar sungai Dotonburi dan ia menjadi asas kepada daerah hiburan. Pada tahun 1885, Stesen Namba di Laluan Hankai dibuka dan selepas itu, JR, Laluan Nankai, Osaka Metro dan sebagainya mula beroperasi. Ia menjadi terminal kedua untuk Osaka. Akses yang baik dari wilayah-wilayah berdekatan seperti Nara, Wakayama, Nagoya, Mie menjadikannya pusat bandar besar di mana orang ramai berkumpul dari pelbagai kawasan.
