Four Magical Lantern Spots You Won’t Want to Miss
The entire hot spring town becomes one enormous stage, allowing visitors to stroll between four beautifully illuminated areas.
First Light: Jozankei Shrine

Dedicated to the founder of Jozankei Onsen, this atmospheric shrine is illuminated by 100 traditional Japanese lanterns lining its approach.
The shrine building also becomes the canvas for a spectacular projection-mapping show, enhanced by modern lighting and mist effects. Together, they transform the grounds into a mysterious world that feels far removed from everyday life.
(At night, entry is limited to guests staying at accommodations in Jozankei Onsen.)
Second Light: Iwato Kannon-do Hall

With a history stretching back around 90 years, Iwato Kannon-do Hall takes on an especially peaceful beauty after dark.
Around 100 softly glowing lanterns and carefully designed illuminations highlight the historic structure, creating a solemn yet calming atmosphere.
Third Light: Jozankei Gensen Park

Jozankei Gensen Park recreates the natural landscape said to have greeted the founder of the hot spring resort when he first arrived.
Around 200 lanterns cast a warm glow across the grounds. Visitors can also soak their feet in a natural footbath fed by hot spring water from the Toyohira River while enjoying the surrounding lights.
Fourth Light: Ashi no Fureai Taro-no-Yu

Located near the entrance to the hot spring town, this welcoming footbath is an ideal place to rest after a day of exploring.
As you soak tired feet, enjoy an original digital art display by NAKED that responds to and blends with the surrounding natural scenery.
