- Written by: Wemmy Chau
Just steps from Kyoto’s iconic Nishiki Market, ZEN Kyoto Wagyu Teppanyaki Steakhouse & Bar Lounge opens its doors on October 15, 2026. Far more than a high-end steakhouse, ZEN seamlessly blends modern Japanese aesthetics, traditional tea ceremony rituals, and an elegant bar lounge for an immersive, multi-sensory cultural experience.

Premium Wagyu Teppanyaki: A Feast for the Eyes and Palate

ZEN strictly selects virgin female Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black), celebrated for its natural sweetness and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. Taking a seat at the teppanyaki counter gives you a front-row view of the chef's culinary artistry—from the satisfying sizzle on the hot iron grill and mouthwatering aromas to dramatic leaping flames. Every course is further elevated with seasonal Japanese ingredients, capturing the distinct flavors of the season in every bite.
Modern Glass Teahouse: A Hands-On Matcha Experience

The centerpiece of ZEN is its signature modern glass teahouse—a light-filled, contemporary take on traditional tea architecture. Here, guests can savor fine matcha and pick up a bamboo whisk (chasen) to try the art of tea preparation themselves, perfectly blending indulgent dining with authentic Japanese tradition.
Bar Lounge: Elevating the Evening Before & After Dinner

Complete your culinary journey in the elegant Bar Lounge. Enjoy an aperitif before your meal or unwind with a nightcap afterward, soaking in the ambient atmosphere as the flavors of teppanyaki linger.

In addition to the lively teppanyaki counter, ZEN features cozy booth seating for 4 to 6 guests and an exclusive VIP private room accommodating up to 8. It is an ideal venue for family gatherings, friends' dinners, or intimate celebrations seeking privacy and style.
Modern Japanese Aesthetics Interwoven with Light and Shadow

From the moment you step inside, ZEN surrounds you in a serene atmosphere shaped by soft lighting, natural textures, and fluid curves. Blending traditional wabi-sabi minimalism with modern refinement, each area—from dining room to teahouse and lounge—reveals its own distinct mood.
