Overview
Because the museum has no permanent collection, what you see depends entirely on which exhibition is running — past shows have featured Takashi Murakami, Ai Weiwei, and Yayoi Kusama, and each runs for four to six months.
The Tokyo City View observation deck is worth the trip even on days when the current exhibition isn't your thing — it's one of the best indoor skyline views in the city, taking in Tokyo Tower and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.
Good to know: This is the rare Grutto Pass venue that's also genuinely worth visiting at night — the observation deck is open until 10 PM on most days, well after the pass's other Ueno and Sumida venues have closed.

Good to Know
✓ Good fit if you're… Good fit for contemporary art fans, anyone wanting a skyline view without a separate Tokyo Tower or Skytree ticket, and evening itineraries.
✗ Maybe skip if you're… Consider skipping if you're hoping to see a specific past exhibition (there's no permanent collection), or if you're a classical/historical art fan — pair with Tokyo National Museum instead.
