- What to expect
-
The "Sendai Tansu," boasting a history of over 300 years in Sendai, are robust and beautiful pieces of furniture that were once used by samurai to store their swords and attire. In this experience, you can enjoy creating a mini Sendai Tansu with decorations and metal fittings at the long-established "Monmaya" workshop, which carries on the samurai culture to the present day, while experiencing the handcrafting of artisans. In addition, as a menu where you can enjoy traditional techniques more casually, we also offer the creation of "Japanese modern hospitality trays" that incorporate "the beauty of lacquer art into everyday life." Lacquered trays that enhance Japanese sweets and tea sets are ideal for interior decoration and gifts. The experience takes place in a registered tangible cultural property that is over 100 years old. Through lectures by craftsmen and tours of the workshop and museum, you can learn about the essence of Japanese traditional crafts and spend a special day completing a one-of-a-kind
