The floats are powered by humans, weaving back and forth along the street and spinning for the spectators. They are often up to nine metres wide and five metres tall! The dancers of the Nebuta Festival are called "jumping people". They wear gorgeous costumes and dance while shouting "Rassera, rassera".

The Nebuta Festival is one of the three major festivals of Tohoku and is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
