- Kaso(過疎) is a word in Japanese which means dramatic depopulation. And my place, Hikimi town is the first one which was called "kaso" town. That is why there is rich nature here. In Hikimi, water-grown wasabi is commonly grown on farms in the Keiryū style (渓流式). The water comes from the Takatsu River system, which is one of the cleanest rivers in Japan. That is why wasabi field in Hikiim is known as Heritage of NHK(national broadcasting).
