みどころ

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Edo’s red-light district and Kabuki theaters, Tsutajyo (Tsutaya Jusaburo) built deep connections with kyoka poets, comic writers, samurai, wealthy townspeople, actors, and illustrators. Through this diverse network, he pioneered a media mix that sparked innovation in the publishing industry. Guided by sharp business sense and a strong consumer-first mindset, he constantly pursued what would entertain and engage people. This exhibition, held in collaboration with the 2025 NHK Taiga drama "Berabou – Tsutaju Eika no Yumebanashi", offers a glimpse into Edo’s city life and Tsutajyo’s creative world —highlighting his impact on late Edo publishing culture and the unique values and artistry he brought to it.
