[Shirakawa-go Gassho Village] Shirakawa-go is surrounded by mountains on all sides, with rice fields running north and south, and small rivers flowing through it. Known as the kingdom of forests and streams, the village of Ogimachi in Shirakawa-go is the largest of the three villages registered as World Heritage Sites (Shirakawa-go, Ainokura, and Suganuma), with 152 houses. The Obirakawa River, which flows from the sacred Mount Haku, merges with the Shogawa River and becomes white and cloudy, which is the origin of the name Shirakawa-go. From the Shiroyama Viewpoint in the northeastern part of Ogimachi Gassho Village in Shirakawa-go, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Gassho Village and the continuous Mount Haku. [Strolling Through the Old Streets of Hida Takayama] The central area of Takayama City, in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture and the heart of the Hida region, preserves the complete form of a castle town and merchant town from the Edo period, and is therefore called "Little Kyoto of Hida."
