Nijo Castle was built by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, who established the samurai era that lasted for 260 years. At the heart of the castle is Ninomaru Palace, a magnificent building decorated with beautiful fusuma paintings (artwork on sliding doors) that reflect the shogun’s prestige. The corridors feature a unique "nightingale floor," which makes a chirping sound when walked on—an ingenious security measure designed to detect intruders. Today, Nijo Castle is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its historical significance. With breathtaking cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage, it remains one of Kyoto’s most popular and scenic attractions.
