- Mt. Takao in Hachioji City, Tokyo, is one of the closest natural areas to central Tokyo and has been regarded as a sacred mountain for over 1,000 years, serving as a hub for mountain worship.
- Near the summit, you will find a prominent temple where many visitors stop to pray to the Shinto-Buddhist mountain gods known as tengu, seeking good fortune.
- Statues of these gods, one characterized by a long nose and another with a crow-like beak, can be seen at the temple and various other locations around the mountain.
- Mt. Mitake in Ome City, Tokyo, is also easily accessible from central Tokyo and is a popular spot for hikers as the gateway to mountain trailing in Okutama. "Oshi Village" still offers accommodation for Mitake supporters during their visit. You will stay in one of the accommodations and enjoy Oshi-Ryori, a traditional dish that has been served to pilgrims.
