- Usuzan is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan having last erupted in 2000. This volcanic mountain completely transformed after the eruption and the scars can still be seen today. On this hike you will be able to see Usuzan's volcanic activity with the many fumaroles that jet out from the craters.
- Starting off in woodland, you will ascend through different types of forests up to the 500-metre-high summit where you will be greeted with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, Lake Toya and Mt. Yotei. Your guide will teach you about the the nature that you will see and explain about the history of Usuzan and it's effects on the surrounding area. This rewarding hike is a great introduction to Hokkaido's best nature!
- What to expect

We will drive from adex base, Noboribetsu to the Usuzan volcano trailhead (approx. 60 minutes). From there we will hike up through the mountain forests up to the West Crater Observatory (approx. 90 minutes). At the summit we will have a break whilst enjoying the beautiful views (approx. 30 minutes). We will then hike back down to the carpark (approx. 60 minutes). From there we will drive back to adex base to finish the tour (approx. 60 minutes).
