- From the roar of the crashing Pacific coastline, to rugged mountain heights, and to the whispering sounds of rolling crystalline streams, Kōchi Prefecture is a land connected by the beauty of its scenery. And it is a scenery that is easy to get lost in. In fact, it’s better that way. Forest trails that were once the iron train tracks slowly heal amid the mountains while amazingly blue waters rush along and around flagstones and river rocks that catch and reflect in blue intensity of the Kōchi sky. Known as “Niyodo Blue” the almost unreal color reflected by the various streams weaving throughout Kōchi is evidence of this water’s purity. This quality makes it essential to traditional crafts such as “washi” paper making that is preserved in the area or ideal for a small micro-brewery located in the mountains and dedicated to high-quality. This quality of the rolling waters also makes it a perfect sight to see just the way it is.
