Shrouded in mystical mist, the mountains of Takachiho conceal one of Japan's mythological sacred sites: Aratate Shrine. It has become revered as a "key to success" among performers and artists, gaining worldwide attention for its portrayal as the deity of entertainment in anime. Manai Falls, a scenic highlight of Takachiho, is steeped in legend. It is said that when the grandson of the sun goddess descended from heaven, Amaterasu Omikami threw down a celestial spear (sakahoko) from the sky. Where it pierced the ground, water gushed forth, forming this majestic waterfall.
