Kiyomizu-dera Temple - a world cultural heritage site and a popular tourist attraction in Kyoto. Founded in 778, it is the oldest temple in Kyoto and a national treasure of Japan. The scenery of Kiyomizu-dera Temple is distinct in each season.
The original name of Kinkakuji Temple is Rokuon-ji Temple. Because the outer walls of the core building of the temple, the Shariden, are all decorated with gold foil, it is nicknamed "Kinkaku-ji Temple". The temple was built in 1397. It was originally the villa of General Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (the prototype of General Yoshi in the animation "Clever Ikkyu"), and was later converted into a Zen temple "Bodhisattva".
