Overview
  • Mt. Mitake is a popular hiking destination near Tokyo, blending natural beauty with cultural heritage—yet it still holds many hidden charms.
  • The Rock Garden trail, which winds through a gorge on the way to Mt. Mitake, is one of our favorite routes from early summer to autumn. It features beautiful deciduous forests and gentle waterfalls.
  • At the summit stands Mitake Shrine, a historic Shinto shrine perched 929 meters above sea level in Tokyo’s Okutama region. It enshrines a revered wolf deity and has been a center of mountain worship and spiritual pilgrimage in the Greater Tokyo area for centuries.
  • The nearby shrine town offers traditional shukubō (pilgrimage lodgings), where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine. Reservations are required, so please let us know in advance if you wish.
  • We recommend wearing sporty or comfortable outdoor clothing. If you have any dietary restrictions or other concerns, kindly inform us beforehand—we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.
