- Overview

- Uji, south of Kyoto, is famous for its matcha (powdered green tea) and other tea products, and is also home to many historic temples and shrines dating back over 1,000 years. This tour takes you on a leisurely tour of this fascinating city on a BROMPTON bicycle with a local navigator. The tour stops at Chazuna, where you can learn about the history and culture of Uji and tea, and then cycles along the banks of the Uji River, where you can see tea fields, to the Uji Shrine and Koushoji Temple area and Uji Park, where there are many photo-worthy spots to visit. From there, drive along a scenic, low-traffic riverside road towards Amagase Dam. The view of the Uji River from Amagase Bridge on the way is so peaceful and beautiful that you will forget the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. By the time you return to the city, visit the Byodoin Phoenix Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or stop for a cup of tea at one of Uji's unique tea shops, you will have seen a whole new side of Kyoto!
