This hands-on program allows you to experience the traditional "casting" technique that has been practiced in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture for over 400 years. At the local workshop, "Fujita Casting," you'll paint a "cat-shaped" figurine made by casting to create your own original piece. You'll also get to experience the actual "casting" process of pouring clay into the mold. You can take your completed painted piece home as a souvenir. Once cast, the piece is passed on to the next participant—a uniquely Hasami-style cyclical craftsmanship that gently connects people. At the end of the experience, you'll receive a "Hasami Ware Craftsmanship Master Certificate," the perfect keepsake to remember your trip. After the experience, be sure to stroll around Nakaoyama, the "town of pottery" where artisans live.
