Held annually on October 1st in Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, the "Miare Festival" is a historic event that heralds the start of the autumn grand festival at Munakata Taisha—a site inscribed on the World Heritage List. Dating back approximately 1,200 years, the festival is dedicated to praying for safe voyages, bountiful catches, and regional prosperity. It features a magnificent procession of over 100 fishing boats, adorned with colorful "tairyo-bata" (flags celebrating a big catch), as they boldly navigate the waters of the Genkai Sea.
