Nyoirinji Temple, also known as the “Frog Temple,” is famous for its 10,000 frog figurines and is open to all visitors. Kumamoto Castle has been a spiritual symbol of Kumamoto for 400 years. At its base, Josaien offers restaurants, souvenir shops, and the chance to see Kumamon, the city’s beloved mascot. In summer, we’ll visit Aso Kusasenri instead. Located at 1,100m, it offers views of grazing horses and the active Aso-Nakadake crater, along with cool weather, greenery, and nearby museums, cafes, and shops. Built in 1910, the Yachiyoza playhouse is a National Important Cultural Property. Nearby Yamaga Onsen is perfect for relaxing, especially Sakura no Yu, a historic natural hot spring established in 1640.
