Kamikochi | The Secret Realm of the Northern Alps in Nagano, Japan Located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, it is a mountainous basin at the heart of the Northern Alps (Hida Mountains), with an elevation of approximately 1500 meters. It belongs to the Chubu Sangaku National Park and is designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a Special Natural Monument. The plain, formed by the alluvial deposits of the Azusa River, is surrounded by the Hotaka Mountain Range (Mount Hotaka, the main peak, is 3190 meters, the highest peak in Japan's Northern Alps) and the Yake-dake volcanic group. To protect its pristine nature, private cars are prohibited, and visitors can only transfer by dedicated bus. Opening period: Mid-April to mid-November. Closed in winter, with only professional snowshoeing tours available, offering a romantic encounter with the limited winter mountain scenery.
