What to expect

Hakone Shrine and Lake Ashinoko Maritime Torii (Approx. 80 minutes, free time) Lake Ashinoko is a volcanic lake located on Mt. Hakone, formed about 3,000 years ago, and is the largest lake in Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a well-known sightseeing spot and a great place to see Mount Fuji from a distance. The red torii on Lake Ashinoko is the site of Hakone Shrine. Hakone Shrine Hakone Shrine was founded in 757 by Manmaki Kamimoto on Hakone Mountain, which has been a sacred place for mountain beliefs since ancient times, and was worshipped by many military generals such as Minamoto Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Hakone Shrine has been honored as the Kanto's chief guardian of Hakone, and is believed to be the god of good luck in terms of traffic safety, fulfillment of wishes, success in love, and good luck in getting rid of misfortune.
