They prayed to Mitsuishi-kami, who captured the demon and made him leave a handprint on a rock to promise never to return. In gratitude, the villagers danced around the sacred rocks, chanting “Sansa, Sansa.” That celebration grew into today’s Sansa Odori: a vibrant parade of drums, flutes, and thousands of dancers in colorful attire.
