Amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sanriku Fireworks Festival emerged in October 2020 with the inspiring theme "Let's launch dreams together," aiming to bring joy and uplift spirits in the Sanriku region. Beyond simply brightening Sanriku's atmosphere, the festival serves as a platform for budding pyrotechnicians to showcase their talents and invigorate the fireworks industry. As the sole fireworks competition along the East Japan Pacific coast, the event draws leading and emerging fireworks companies nationwide to illuminate the Sanriku night sky with over 15,000 spectacular fireworks, including artistic shells and colossal 10-inch (shakudama) shells. Moreover, attendees can expect cutting-edge performances synchronized with music, embodying the festival's innovative spirit.
