- An impregnable fortress that withstood fierce attacks from the newly formed government in the Boshin war of 1868. In the spring of 2011, it was reroofed with red roof tiles, which was the look of the Bakumatsu period, making it the only castle in Japan to have a red-tiled roof. Inside the castle is a museum where you can learn more about the Aizu region's history.
