**Kumano Big Fireworks Festival** The Kumano Great Fireworks Display has a history of 250 to 300 years, and its origins can be traced back to the Edo period. It was originally held as one of the Bon Festival activities at Gokuraku-ji Temple in Kimoto-cho, Kumano City, to worship the ancestors. Although the scale of the fireworks displays at that time was small, there was already a tradition of fireworks display competitions. In the early Meiji era, some forms of fireworks were banned, but fireworks activities continued to develop, and the locations of fireworks gradually moved to the coast. After entering the Taisho period, fireworks activities added tourism elements and became more spectacular in scale. However, due to the impact of World War II, the conference was suspended before 1945, and was taken over by the Kumano City Tourism Association in 1946.
