Kamishichiken, the oldest of Kyoto's five kagai - Geiko (Geisha) & Maiko districts, heralds the arrival of spring with its annual dance performances. It is said that spring in Kyoto begins with the dances of the Geiko (Geisha) and Maiko of Kamishichiken. The performances feature not only esteemed traditional dance but also large-scale dance dramas that weave contemporary trends and humor, celebrating spring in all its grandeur.
